May marks a historic moment — 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe. At Warner Hotels, we're proud to be taking part in the UK-wide commemorations to honour VE (Victory in Europe) Day. Whether you’re passionate about history or simply love coming together for meaningful moments, this is an opportunity to unite with loved ones and celebrate peace, freedom and the resilience of a generation who fought for the freedom we all enjoy today.
A nation remembers: How the UK is celebrating
Across the UK, special tributes are planned — here's a few highlights of the day:
- 9am - Town Criers across the UK will undertake the VE Day Proclamation as the VE Day 80 flags are raised.
- Midday - a unique tune written for the occasion will be played by pipers at the top of the UK’s four highest peaks.
- 6.30pm - Listen out as Cathedrals and Churches across the nation will ring out in united celebration.
- 9.30pm - Over one thousand beacons and hundreds of Lamp Lights of Peace will shine throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man with the flames from both representing the emergence from the darkness of the war into the ‘light of peace’.

A historic connection to Littlecote House
If you're visiting Littlecote House Hotel, you’ll be standing on a piece of living history. The historic estate played a vital role in World War II, hosting British, Canadian and American forces as they fought for liberation in Europe.
Notably the 101st Airborne Division, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment (later known as Easy Company in the “Band of Brothers” HBO miniseries directed by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks) held Littlecote as their HQ before D-Day. From the 48th South Midlands Regiment in 1939 to the 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade in 1945, Littlecote supported those who served, and its legacy continues to be felt today.

Enjoy the buzz, connect with other guests, and take part in a range of outdoor activities that bring people together in the spirit of celebration.
You’ll also have the opportunity to watch films indicative of the era and see live TV screenings of VE Day Celebrations across the UK throughout the day.
